Trustee Russell Brown Will Not Seek Office in 2014

LAWRENCE, IN – Lawrence Township Trustee Russell Brown announced today that upon completion of his current term, he will not seek reelection in 2014.

“I have been grateful for the opportunity to serve the people of Lawrence Township and I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished during that time,” Brown said. “But I feel it is time for another individual to have the chance to continue the progress we have made.”

Brown was elected Lawrence Township Trustee in September of 2009 to complete the remainder of a term following a vacancy in the office. He was reelected to a full term in 2010.

 The Lawrence Advisory Board will have a Public Meeting on September 18, 2012 to discuss information provided by Judge Rehme on the Small Claims Court’s plan to digitally convert its case files.

LAWRENCE,Ind.  – Seeking to honor its heritage and recognize important individuals in Lawrence Township’s history, Trustee Russell Brown and the Lawrence Township Advisory Board recently named the community meeting room after Elisha Reddick, the township’s first known European settler.

Reddick, who traveled from Ohio with his wife Elizabeth and son James Milton in 1823, was written about by historian and reporter B.R. Sulgrov in his 1884 book “History of Indianapolis andMarionCounty.”

According to Sulgrov, Reddick was a welcoming presence in the Township writing, “In his early settlement, the latchstring was always hung out the door, and the weary pilgrim cordially welcomed within. He never refused the hungry food, the weary shelter or the oppressed assistance. He has always been ready to nurse the sick, comfort the dying and help bury the dead.”

The Elisha Reddick Community Room is available for reservation during all public hours of operation as well as after business hours. The room includes seating for 25-30 people, tables, internet access and a video projector.

“The idea behind creating the community room was to give groups a convenient place to meet in Lawrence Township that was state of the art,” Brown said. “Its creation was an important component of the Morris Settles Township Center renovation and naming it after Elisha Reddick is a fitting tribute to the man and the ideals he represented in our Township’s early days.”
